The minutes were taken by the chair
2, Caldecote Sports Association
Following a Public Open meeting to discuss sporting facilities in Caldecote it was agreed that a Caldecote Sports Association should be established to act as an umbrella association for the various sports groups likely to be functioning in the parish. This would probably have charity status and its own constitution. A temporary committee to set up the constitution etc. was elected from the parishioners present:
Sue Tasker (chair), Caroline Fawkes (Treasurer), Chris Jossaume (Secretary), assisted by M. Mackeown, Adrian Gill and Roxy Petre. Frank Wolton was also elected as a representative of the Parish Council.
In about two or three months time a full meeting will be called to establish the constitution/rules and formally elect the officers/committee members.
With regard to the problems encountered in bringing the tennis courts into play and achieving transfer to the Parish Council, it was agreed that the parish clerk should write a letter to Wilson Connolly (copies to Chris Taylor, SCDC); Cambs County Council, Sue Tasker) indicating that the matter can be progressed if they ask the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) to provide a technical report on the condition of the courts. This is essential in view of the need for the prospective tennis club to become affiliated to the LTA. The Parish Council is likely to accept the verdict of such an independent report.
The Parish Council also noted that the issue of Health and Safety might well be significant in persuading Wilson Connolly to improve the condition of the courts, especially if it can be shown that the courts are at present hazardous to health and safety in playing a normal game of tennis (i.e. if it can be shown that there is a significant risk of injuring an ankle etc.). The need to involve the Health and Safety Executive should be kept in mind.
